Most of us are in a confused state of mind when we ‘ve been in a collision. First, whatever we were doing at the time of the accident is getting rescheduled. In some cases, a hospital or doctor visit is required. Ideally, you report the collision to your insurance company as soon as possible. Still, by the time you’re ready to get your vehicle attended to, a day or more has passed.
Some insurance companies are more aggressive than others when it comes to “adjustments”. However, you should always remember that not only are you paying them for service, but also you are the one who will make the decisions regarding what shop will work to restore your vehicle. You can base your decision on the cleanliness of the shop, or the positive reviews it has received; the fact that it may be close to your home or office, or even based upon what your adjuster tells you about his experiences with that shop. Whatever your criteria, the decision is yours.
So, the next time you need estimates of repair on your vehicle, ask for recommendations from your insurance company, but also get at least a couple more estimates from other shops that you like. Weigh out the results carefully, and then make the choice that is right for you. Remember, by law, the choice is yours.
